About Dawn

As a little girl, like many little girls, I grew up with ballet. From one movement tradition to another, my life is more balanced with a mentally stimulating physical practice. I have been studying yoga since 2006, primarily within the alignment-based Iyengar tradition. I hold a Yoga Alliance RYT 200hr certificate and have been teaching since 2010. Check out my regular class schedule, schedule a private session, and learn more about my philosophy.

Yoga Worshops

Opening the Heart
Location: Free Spirits Yoga
Date: Saturday, April 14th
Time: 2 - 4pm
Many of us spend the majority of our days sitting, often hunched over a computer. This tightens the hips and chest, and can put a damper on our mood. Experience the joy of opening the front body, from the thighs and hips, to the chest and shoulders. Learn how to prepare for and practice back-bending with compassion for the body—especially that cranky lower back! Cost: $25/person ($5 discount for Guilford College Students).
Email: sridawn@gmail.com to preregister.

Courage to Invert
Location: Free Spirits Yoga
Date: Saturday, May 19th
Time: 2 - 4pm
Going upside-down was easy when you were a fearless child, but you’ve learned a few lessons since then. When done correctly, practicing inversions is good for the immune system, moves lymph fluid (like a good massage), and balances the nervous system. Learn how to prepare for and practice confident and safe inversions for a lifetime of neck and whole-body health. Cost: $25/person ($5 discount for Guilford College Students).

Philosophy

Alignment is a key element to my practice and teaching of Hatha yoga. Only with proper alignment can Prana (life force) flow freely through the body. Free flow of Prana and alignment also regulate emotional balance, and promote healthy immune and nervous system function. In addition to the emotional benefits of proper alignment, stability and space is created throughout the body, especially in the joints, which leads to healthy mobility for a lifetime.

I also practice yoga as a spiritual journey, incorporating the philosophy of Patanjali's traditional eight limbs of yoga, as well as teachings from modern philosophers of yoga, religion and eco-spirituality. I practice meditation regularly, and love to learn and share the wisdom of the ancient sages.

I try to teach with a sense of humor about our bodies and mind and to encourage introspection and svadyaya (self-study) to go deeper into the practice of yoga. I believe that practicing yoga will bring strength, flexibility, effort and ease to all aspects of our lives.
